1. INDIVIDUAL COUNSELLING

Each client receives treatment on an individual basis. Sessions are usually for 50 minutes and are usually conducted once a week over a period of weeks or months. The emphasis is on the particular characteristics of that individual eg. family of origin, history, emotional difficulties. Aim is to help the client attain their individual goals eg. to empower themselves.

2. GROUP COUNSELLING (COUPLE, FAMILY OR GROUP)

The psychologist interacts with a couple, a family or a group. Sessions are usually 90 – 120 minutes and conducted every one or two weeks over a period of months. Emphasis is on communication, interrelationships, and interactions in the system formed by the clients with the aim of improving the functioning of the system.

Important Information for New Clients

Dear New Client: Welcome to the psychological services of Twin Towers Medical Clinic. It is important for you to know that psychological consultations differ from medical consultations in several ways:

  • Psychological treatment usually takes more than a single visit. Psychological problems usually have been created and maintained over long periods of time. It is most likely that psychological treatment will also take time. Therefore although it is possible that a single session will be enough, it is much more likely that weekly sessions for periods ranging from several weeks to months will be required for significant progress.
  • Psychological treatment requires that you become actively involved. If you want to progress, you must make a serious effort to make recovery a top priority in your life and to work at making the necessary changes.
  • Everything that is said during consultations is confidential. Your written permission is required to convey personal information to professionals or organizations. Your records are kept under lock and key by the Psychologist and are not transferred to our Medical Record Office.
  • Psychological consultations are by appointment only. The usual psychological consultation begins on the hour and ends 50 minutes later. If you arrive late this plan still has to be adhered to because there is another client scheduled for the beginning of the next hour. Thus it is important that you arrive on time otherwise your visit will be shortened by whatever length of time you are late. You must inform the Information Counter at least 24 hours in advance if you want to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
